“No Problem” Tariff Updates
Affordable, accurate, automated and timely tariff updates are here now.
For pennies per update, importers can now sit back and trust that they will get automatic alerts for tariff updates related to their products and HS codes. No integrations or IT support is required.
SaaS trade compliance platforms, such as KYG Trade, and HS classification tools, such as Quick Code and Avalara, use automation and generative AI to determine HS codes. They also use automation to alert users to possible changes to those codes.
Once a tariff code is determined, that code is monitored daily for changes to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS). (See the 2024 HTS Revision 4 as an example of recent tariff revisions.) On the KYG Trade platform, a user’s work queue shows a Suspect notification when a current code may be impacted by a CBP update. Once a Suspect code is identified, the user can easily research the change and decide whether to update the code.
For large numbers of Suspect codes, Advanced Searches are run to identify those products and codes. Then, bulk or individual re-classifications can quickly be conducted.
This human-in-the-loop process maximizes the use of automation yet ensures no codes are updated without an importer’s classification specialist being involved. The Customs requirement of “reasonable care,” that is incumbent upon the importer, is met this way. Additionally, the alerts and updates, machine and human, are recorded in the product record automatically, creating an effortless audit trail.
KYG Trade has its own HS classification tool called ChatHTS however the open and extensible platform welcomes other tools like Quick Code and Avalara on the platform. Since KYG Trade is primarily an orchestration platform, it invites users to work with the tools that are best for their use case.
